AMATEUR METHODIST EMERGENCY NETWORK RADIO

The United Methodist Church - Florida Annual Conference

VX 1700

This Vertex Standard radio was chosen to replace the VX 600 which is out of production. The extra versatility of this radio makes it a prime choice for the rugged environment situations often found in Angola. It was initially designed for off-shore oil rigs.  Many of its features are set by computer software which makes it a delight to program its 200 memory channels, emergency and priority frequencies.  It will transmit single sideband, a.m., Morse code, fax, and digital data  (packet radio), and even slow scan TV.  It can be linked to the telephone via a phone patch which will allow the Bishop to literally "phone home!".  It is 25% more powerful than the VX600 and easily averages a100 watts signal.  Being powered by 12 volts D.C., it is designed for mobile/emergency operation.
Our system of 10 radios will provide both emergency communications in the "out back" areas of East Angola, and allow the Bishop and Conference officials to be in constant contact with minimal expenses.  Unlike phone service, the only ongoing expense will be the annual cost of the governmental licenses.  An added benefit is that anyone with a short wave receiver will be able to listen into Bible studies,  Christian  programing, daily devotions with the Bishop and Cabinet, and to Conference news even as it is being made!  Wow!
